Set in 50 acres of delightful parkland, once the grounds
of a long demolished mansion, the Ardgartan Hotel occupies an
elevated position with panoramic views down Loch Long, whose shore
is just 30 yards away.
From the rear of the hotel the outlook is dominated by the
iconic Cobbler, one of the peaks that form the famous Arrochar
Alps. The area is part of the Argyll Forest Park, a magnificent
stretch of unspoiled countryside that was established as long ago
as 1935 as an area of exceptional beauty.
From the hotel there are short walks leading through woodland
alongside the Croe River or, for the more energetic, there is a
network of forest tracks that extend virtually as far as you could
care to go. The tourist village of Arrochar is the closest
community, about 3 miles distant at the head of the Loch Long, and
the better known Loch Lomond just two miles beyond the village.
