Highland Hotel 5 Day New Year Break
First Day
Arrive at the Highland Hotel in time for dinner.

30th December
Also known as the ‘Highland Capital’, Inverness is the main city in the Scottish Highlands and although it is one of the fastest growing cities in Europe it still retains its market town atmosphere. Inverness offers a wide range of local produce and shops to explore as well as castles and heritage sites. Just a short distance away lies Scotland’s most famous Loch, known around the world thanks to its elusive monster. The Loch Ness Monster, Nessie, is undoubtedly the biggest attraction in the area. There have been rumours of a beast in the water since the 7th century but the first recorded sightings date back to 1933. The legend of Nessie remains unproven but explore this area to see for yourself! In the afternoon adventure into the glorious Scottish Highlands as you travel towards Aviemore. The dramatic mountain environments and dark woodlands are some of the most remote wildernesses in Scotland. After a busy day of exploring return to your hotel for a complimentary sherry reception followed by dinner and entertainment.

31st December, Hogmanay
Visit the Caledonian Canal to see the great feat of Scottish engineering, stretching 60 miles through the stunning Great Glen. The Canal is a masterpiece and Neptune’s Staircase, built by Thomas Telford between 1803-1822, is the longest staircase lock in Britain. At the southern end of the Great Glen sits Spean Bridge, surrounded by romantic landscapes with views of Ben Nevis and Aonach Mor. Nearby sits the famous Commando Memorial which was erected in 1952 to commemorate the soldiers who gained their green berets at the nearby Commandos Basic Training Centre, and who fell during the Second World War. Visit this iconic memorial and the panoramic viewpoint before returning to your hotel for lunch. This afternoon offers a chance to relax with a film or book in front of our open fires or time to explore the town of Fort William. Dinner and entertainment will be held in the evening as you see in the bells and celebrate the start of the new year!

1st January, New Year's Day
Celebrate the new year with brunch followed by a varied programme of entertainment. Enjoy a day of leisure to take a local stroll or relax by our open fires before afternoon tea is served. In the evening, dinner will be served followed by entertainment to round off your Scottish Hogmanay.
