Loch Tummel Hotel 6 Day Scenic Scotland
First Day - South
Arrive at the Loch Tummel Hotel in time for dinner.
Perth & Scone Palace
Sitting on the banks of the River Tay, Perth is the cosmopolitan centre and bustling city of rural Perthshire offering a range of entertainment, shops, cafes and restaurants. Visit the recently renovated Perth Museum, home to The Stone of Destiny, an ancient symbol of Scotland. A stone that helped to make kings and queens, it was used in the inauguration of Scottish monarchs at Scone Palace, just upriver from Perth. The Stone’s story stretches back through the ages and is still used to crown kings and queens of the United Kingdom today, including the coronation of King Charles III in 2023. Scone breathes history like nowhere else in Scotland. It is the family home of the Earls of Mansfield and the ancient crowning place of Scottish kings on the stone of Scone. You can wander down the Long Galley where King Charles II strode to his coronation in 1661. During the Jacobite rebellions, the ‘Old Pretender’ spent three weeks at Scone while his son, Bonnie Prince Charlie, visited in 1745. Step outside the Palace and nature awaits in abundance. There are no formal gardens at Scone, but 100 acres of woodland gardens with their borders, flowering shrubs and trees create a gloriously peaceful setting for strolling or picnicking
Funicular Railway & Aviemore
Visit Cairngorm Mountain, home to Scotland’s only funicular railway, allowing people of all abilities to reach the top of one of Scotland’s highest mountains. The railway takes you up to the top station to get panoramic views across the mountain range from 3,500 ft up! Located on the doorstep of the Cairngorm National Park, Aviemore is a busy town offering extensive views of the distant mountains.
Aberfeldy, Crieff & Pitlochry
Where rolling lowland hills meet rugged highland mountains, these bustling towns have plenty to do and see. Lying on the shores of Scotland’s longest river, the River Tay, Aberfeldy has spectacular views of the Falls of Moness. Journey on to discover Crieff – originally a main cattle trading centre in Scotland. From its medieval roots this town has flourished and is home to the oldest distillery in Scotland which showcases one of Scotland’s most famous whiskies. Finally visit the friendly little town of Pitlochry with its quaint architecture and beautiful scenery, as well as local crafts and produce.
A visit to the Royal Deeside
Braemar and Ballater lie in the heart of Royal Deeside and are within the Cairngorms National Park. Surrounded by hidden glens and beautiful mountain scenery these villages have long standing royal connections with many of the shops and businesses displaying Royal warrants of the Royal Family. The family are notoriously fond of the Scottish Highlands and this trip offers a chance to explore the area that held so much charm for Queen Victoria & Prince Albert.
