There is nothing quite like waking up early in Scotland, watching the morning light hit the loch and seeing the sun rise over the Highlands.
Enjoy a traditional Scottish breakfast at the hotel, with a morning coffee to fuel your day, and then it's time to step aboard the coach. Your island adventure awaits!
The Scenic Journey to the Coast
It might be early but make sure you stay awake for the first leg of the journey. The views are unmatched, and there is no bad angle of Scotland, even if you are not sitting at the front of the coach. Our journey takes us on a scenic drive alongside the iconic shores of Loch Lomond before heading towards Erskine, where we cross the River Clyde via the Erskine Bridge.
From there, we journey down to the coastal town of Ardrossan to board the Caledonian MacBrayne ferry.
Setting Sail on the Firth of Clyde
The 50-minute ferry crossing is a highlight in itself. Inside the vessel, you can visit the on-board café or coffee cabin for a delicious hot drink and a slice of cake (or even a second breakfast!). Once you’ve refuelled, head up to the open-air viewing deck. Keep your eyes peeled – if you’re lucky, you might just spot a pod of dolphins!
Exploring "Scotland in Miniature"
Keep an eye on your time as you explore, as it’s incredibly easy to lose yourself in the stunning gardens, and you don’t want to miss your timed slot to explore inside the castle.
As you walk through the grand rooms, take your time soaking in the history. If you have any questions the friendly and knowledgeable guides are around the castle to help.
Once your castle tour is complete, take the extra time to explore the gardens or visit the café for lunch, tea and cake, before meeting the rest of your tour and driver back at the bus.
The Journey Home
Don’t worry, the trip isn’t over yet! You’ll enjoy a breathtaking drive further north to Lochranza, taking in the beautiful views that Arran has to offer before boarding the ferry back. The crossing is a bit shorter but every bit as scenic, so keep that camera out!
Reboard the coach and enjoy the scenic drive back to the hotel where you will drive through Tarbert, Lochgilphead, Inveraray and the Rest and be Thankful.
